A Plethora Of Choices With Satellite TV Programs

5 December 2007

If you’re tired of the same old channels you have with regular cable or digital cable TV, consider switching over to satellite TV! Get the programs that you already love, and more, by making the move over to a dish. This article takes a look at the prices and packages available for satellite TV programs.

Be Careful - Don’t Faint At These Prices!

Let’s take a look at some of the prices for digital cable TV and do a comparison between packages for cable TV programs and satellite TV programs. For example, Oceanic Time Warner Cable offers a basic digital cable package of 198 channels (including local channels) for $52.70. That doesn’t even include the basic installation fees, which total $102 for the work on one outlet ($18 extra for additional outlets).

Digital premium packages cost $13.95 for individual packages (only $7 if you add more than one package) like the HBO Multiplex. Some premium individual channels like the Chinese Channel cost $13.95 as well, with the NGN channels (Japanese language programs) going for up to $29.95 just for NGN 2!

If you picked up all the packages and channels available, your costs could easily hit the $200 mark. This is not to say that you can’t easily do the same if you get programs via satellite TV, but a comparable package of 180 basic channels is available that costs only $44.99 at the Dish Network website (dishtv.com). At $5.00 to add in local channels, you’ll still be paying slightly less.

The packages they have are comparable with the digital cable TV prices, although initial installation may be more expensive. Sometimes it can be difficult to tell given the number of rebates and special offers, although you can use the DishBUILDER system to choose your own channels and packages to customize your programming.

Dish Network has an 8-channel HBO package that costs $14.99 per month, an 8-channel Starz package that costs $11.99 per month, and a 10-channel Showtime package for $11.99 per month. Prices seem to be fairly competitive between satellite TV and digital cable, but there can be a wider variety of choices if you choose to go with satellite TV to beam programs into your home.

For example, Dish Network has the Great Wall Package, which offers something like 27 Chinese language channels direct from mainland China! If you’re a native speaker of Chinese or have picked up the language and have an interest in Chinese culture, something like this is perfect. It’s also something that you can’t get with cable (generally speaking).

Although both digital cable and satellite TV have their pros and cons, satellite TV may be a good option for people with specific needs and interests. Satellite TV is also highly customizable, so check it out today!
