Solving A Chronic Heartburn Problem

30 September 2008

A number of people across the country suffer from a chronic heartburn problem and have no idea what they can do to solve their problem. Chronic heartburn is a painful condition and can affect many different areas of a person’s life in a negative way, including causing a lack of sleep, a sore throat, and reoccurring nausea. A chronic heartburn problem can be solved in a number of different ways, but the most effective solution for your particular problem will depend on the original cause of your heartburn.

Dietary Changes

For some people, their chronic heartburn is caused by items that they have eaten during the day. Some people are more sensitive to acids and spices in their food, which causes heartburn or acid reflux whenever these foods are eaten. Most of these people do not realize that the foods that they are eating are the cause of their persistent heartburn and continue to eat the same foods with the same results.

The easiest way to cure chronic heartburn that is caused by the items that you are eating is to implement some dietary changes to limit or eliminate these foods from your diet. By careful review, you will be able to figure out which of the foods that you are eating are causing the chronic heartburn and avoid these foods in the future. If the food that is causing the heartburn is one that cannot be easily avoided, then the person may want to try a preventative heartburn medication to see if that can relieve their suffering.

Drinking More Water

People that drink more acidic drinks, such as soda or lemonade, than water may find themselves suffering from chronic heartburn frequently due to the high acidic content of their stomach. Many people are unaware that is the cause of their discomfort and take many different types of medications to alleviate the symptoms that accompany the heartburn. By adding a few glasses of tap or bottled water to their diet each day, they can make their chronic heartburn go away for good in the space of a few days.

Even if the chronic heartburn has been aggravated by some other item, drinking water may help to relieve the symptoms of the condition. Heartburn is mainly caused by a high level of acid in the stomach and diluting this acid with water can lessen the severity of the heartburn, if not eliminate it altogether. A glass of water before bedtime can help people that typically wake up with heartburn during the night to sleep more soundly and not wake in discomfort and restlessness when they would prefer to be sleeping.
